Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today handed over cheques of Rs five crore and Rs one crore to Olympic silver medallist P V Sindhu and her coach P Gopichand respectively.
Rao also announced here that the state would frame a new sports policy and allot necessary funds by the next budget.
The chief minister congratulated and felicitated Sindhu and Gopichand, who met him at his camp office here this evening.
Rao also congratulated Sindhu’s parents – P V Ramana and P Vijaya, a release from CMO said.
“There are several talented sportspersons in the districts and rural areas and there is a need to identify them,” Rao said.
The chief minister also announced a cash reward of Rs 25 lakh each to Sindhu’s physiotherapist C Kiran and shuttler K Srikanth.
Rao, while extending financial assistance to Gopichand Academy located at Gachibowli here, said more such academies needed to be set up in other districts of the state.
