Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday offered a golden crown worth Rs.3.5 crore to Hindu goddess Bhadrakali in Warangal.
Accompanied by his wife Shobha Rao and some cabinet colleagues, the chief minister presented the crown, weighing 11.7 kg, to the temple.
The offering was made on behalf of the state government on the occasion of Devi Navarathrulu celebrations, the festival of nine sacred nights on which goddess is offered special prayers as part of the Dasara festivities.
KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly called, made the offering to fulfill the vow that he would present ornaments to various gods and goddesses in both the Telugu states, if a separate Telangana state was carved out of Andhra Pradesh.
On the orders of the state government the special crown was made by GRT jewellers.
The chief minister and his wife offered special prayers at the Bhadrakali temple.
Telangana assembly Speaker Madhusudhana Chary, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari, Endowments Minister A. Indrakaran Reddy and top officials also attended the ceremony.
