Telangana CM misguiding people on irrigation projects: Congress

Hyderabad : Telangana Congress on Thursday alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is “misguiding” people by claiming that some of the irrigation projects initiated during the erstwhile Congress government, were during his own rule.

The state Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), in an open letter to Prime Minister Naredra Modi, who is scheduled to visit Telangana on August 7, said the scheme ‘Mission Bhagiratha’ slated to be launched by him, is an old initiative of the Congress government.

“Keeping public interests aside, KCR is trying to launch the scheme (Mission Bhagiratha) through you. We want to bring some facts about the project before you. The project, which was started in 2008, is originally meant to bring water from Yellampalli to Hyderabad and completed in 2015.

“Just by diverting some water to a few villages in Gajwel constituency (represented by Rao), the TRS government is claiming that they completed the project,” the TPCC letter said, adding the original name of the project is ‘Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Sujala Sravanthi’.

State Congress chief Uttam Kumar Reddy said Modi, during his visit, should announce launching of all projects that were mentioned in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act for Telangana.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to make his maiden visit to Telangana on Sunday, during which he will lay foundation stones of different projects collectively worth around Rs 17,000 crore.
