Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao expressed his deep dissatisfaction over passing of the ordinance incorporating amendments to the state Reorganization Act by Lok Sabha today, transferring the submerged areas under Polavaram in Khammam district to the State of Andhra Pradesh. He said this is a clear cut violation of Article 3.
The Chief Minister described NDA government decision as unfortunate and undemocratic. He said it is unethical on the part of NDA government, to pass ordinance in this manner, just because it enjoys majority in the Lok Sabha. He said that, the union government should have taken into confidence the Telangana government and should have obtained its consent before passing this ordinance in Parliament. He said his party MPs though argued against this move, the NDA did not consider their objections and went ahead. He said he himself requested the union government and President of India to change the Polavaram design.
The Chief Minister said that the MLAs and MPs of BJP and TDP should have opposed the ordinance in Parliament. Even though the ordinance was passed in the Lok Sabha the fight against it shall continue and the modalities will be announced later said the Chief Minister. Legal luminaries and constitutional experts are being consulted in this regard. In fact the Polavaram design should have been changed instead of going ahead with passing of such ordinance and the issue could have been amicably settled said the Chief Minister. (INN)
