Telangana Chief Minister questioned by CBI

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao was questioned by CBI at his residence on Monday with regard relating to the award of a contract when he was the Union Minister of Labour, Employment and Training in 2006.

The CBI officials asked him why the proposal for construction of ESI hospitals to National Building Construction Corporation of India (NBCC) was cancelled.

They also questioned him why the contract is given to the Executive Engineer of Fisheries Department of the then united AP Government instead of the Central Government Agency NBCC .

The contract was for the construction of ESI Hospitals across the State. Suspecting low quality of work, the ESI Corporation initiated a probe in 2007-08 and a case has been registered by CBI in 2011.

The IIT center examined the construction quality of ESI hospitals and reported that the Government suffered a loss of at least Rs. 5 Cr.

It is not yet clear whether the CBI got the answers from KCR to its questions or they need to visit him again.
