Telangana shutdown hits normal life.Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao expressed his deep discontent over the passing of the Ordinance incorporating amendments to the State Reorganisation Act by the Lok Sabha.
Life in Telangana, including in the State capital Hyderabad, has been hit by a bandh called by Telangana Joint Action Committee and Left parties making a voice disapproval against transferring 211 villages to Andhra Pradesh from Khammam district.
TRS activists and other parties and organisations have been insistingon the bandh in Hyderabad. Schools, colleges, shopping establishments and hotels have been closed. Buses of state-owned Road Transport Corporation (RTC) went off the roads.
Since the bandh faal on Saturday not a working day the IT industry heaved a sigh of relief.
On Friday, the Lok Sabha passed an amendment, paving the way for the Polavaram irrigation project. It is alleged the project would dislocate approximately three lakh tribals.
The neighbouring Odisha and Chhattisgarh Governments too are contradicting the project.
The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), Congress’ Telangana unit and Left parties have called for a State-wide bandh and a number of people’s organisations have extended their support to the bandh.
