Hyderabad, February 20: As the Andhra Pradesh government staff struck work and took part in protest demonstrations all over Telangana as part of non-cooperation movement on Saturday, the Telangana joint action committee (JAC) gave a call for 48-hour bandh from Tuesday morning.
JAC chairman M. Kodandaram told a press conference here that the bandh call would apply to all government offices, schools, colleges, buses, trains and even private companies. He asked people to observe bandh in whatever manner in their environs.
Mr. Kodandaram said Saturday’s call of JAC for ‘rasta-roko’ was a big success as people organised it in the State capital too which was exempted from such programmes in the past as not to inconvenience public. It was held in Khairatabad and several other centres.
He asked the Congress MLAs who returned from New Delhi to give up their pursuit of convincing the party high command and join the movement.
Since it was clear that separate Telangana would not be possible by mere lobbying, he urged them to use Assembly as a forum to mount pressure on the party leadership.
Telangana employees’ association president C. Vittal said the three-day-old stir caused a few thousand crore rupees of revenue loss to the government.
He also said he had authentic information that the loss in Ranga Reddy district alone was Rs. 877 crore.
