On the call given by TRS for Telangana Bandh against the proposal of formation of Rayala-Telangana, bandh was observed in Telangana area which was peaceful. BJP, CPI, New Democracy, Telangana Political JAC and other organizations supported the bandh. Attendance was less in Govt. offices. Rallies were taken out in various districts of Telangana against the formation of Rayala-Telangana. Some Telangana leaders were arrested and released later in the evening.
TRS President, Mr. K. Chandrasekhara Rao appreciated the workers of TRS and applauded the businessmen who voluntarily kept their shops closed. He also thanked Educational Institutions, Employees organizations and public for meeting the bandh success. He told that the struggle would continue till the formation of Telangana.
TRS Politburo member, Dr. Sharawan and K. Srinivas, President of TRS of Greater Hyderabad were arrested at Paradise Circle, Secunderabad and they were shifted to Ramgopalpet Police Station. BJP and CPI workers also demonstrated in various districts. All the organizations supporting Telangana strongly oppose the inclusion of Kurnool and Anantapur to form Rayala Telangana State. TRS floor leader, Mr. E.Rajender and Deputy Floor leader Mr. Harish Rao and other MLAs also participated in protest program. Mr. Harish Rao organized dharna in front of RTC bus depot, Siddipet and stopped the buses. A.P.S.R.T.C. suspended bus services from Imliban and Jubilee bus stations as a precautionary measure. City police had made elaborate arrangements near Secretariat, Assembly and other Govt. offices. In many places workers of TRS, BJP and CPI were seen to request the shopkeepers to keep their business close. In Madhapur and Hitech area there was no effect of the bandh. People faced a lot of difficulties due to cancelation of bus services. Spokesmen of RTC told that more than 3000 buses were withdrawn from the roads of Hyderabad. Buses going to Telangana, Seema Andhra and other areas were cancelled. Imliban and Jubilee bus stations were giving a deserted look. The passengers were forced to travel by private vehicles. Singareinie collieries workers participated in the bandh which affected mining operation. It is reported that 20, 000 workers in 18 coal mines stopped work which affected the production of 40, 000 tons of coal.
