Telangana activists throw eggs at Ministers

Hyderabad, April 18: Activists of Telangana Students’ Joint Action Committee created a flutter in a public meeting attended by Union Minister for Urban Development S. Jaipal Reddy and State Home Minister P. Sabita Indra Reddy by throwing eggs at them in Ranga Reddy district on Sunday. However, they did not hit the Ministers as the activists were far away from the dais.

According to the information reaching here, the incident occurred at Gangyada village in Nawabpet mandal, when the two Ministers went there to lay foundation stone for construction of a bridge across Musi river with an estimated expenditure of Rs. 4.5 crore. Student JAC activists led by its district convenor Subraj Patel and co-convenor Upender Reddy raised slogans against the Union Minister even as he laid the foundation stone.

The students shouted that the leaders who did not support Telangana should not visit the region and sought to know whether he was able to get time now to visit his constituency long after several students and youth ended lives for Telangana cause. They started throwing eggs at the Ministers as soon as they laid foundation for the work but they landed few feet away from the Ministers.

A large number of policemen led by Sub-Inspector Upender took the student activists into custody immediately, bundled them in police jeeps and took away. In all, about 20 activists were arrested and taken to Marpalli police station. Later, some Congress groups also clashed there but were pacified by the police.

At Ellakonda, where the Ministers inaugurated a substation constructed with Rs. 3 crore, TDP legislator from Chevella K.S. Ratnam and Congress leader K. Yadaiah had a heated argument in the presence of the Ministers over development works.

The Ministers also participated in other development programmes at Madireddypalli, Ekmamidi and other villages.
