Adilabad, February 07: Telangana activists continued to protest against the government mass contact programme in various places of the region today.
ADILABAD: Rachabanda was held in places, wherever possible, with thin attendance in Adilabad district on Sunday.
The programme was held in 15 of 28 places where it was scheduled to be held. Rachabanda was postponed in five places as none of the beneficiaries attended.
Police took 25 Telangana activists into preventive custody for trying to obstruct officials from holding the gram sabhas at Vadur, Arli (T), Anthargav and Gomothri in Tamsi mandal. In Vadur, villagers placed bullock carts on the road leading to their place to prevent officials from entering the village. With no other option, officials retreated. In some villages, protesters tried to disrupt the programme by burning chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy in effigy at the venues.
SANGAREDDY: Tension prevailed at the venue of Rachabanda held in Chinnasnakarampet mandal headquarters today when a youth of the village tried to disrupt the programme dousing himself in kerosene. However, locals managed to prevent him.
Earlier, TDP and TRS activists tried to obstruct the programme being conducted in the SC Colony but police took them into custody.
Soon after the meeting resumed, one Narsimlu, reached the place and doused himself in kerosene shouting ‘Jai Telangana’. Following this incident, officials wound up the programme and left.
In Hatnoora of Narsapur constituency, minister Sunita Reddy held the programme as police took the TRS activists into preventive custody.
But locals objected to cops taking Sirpura village sarpanch into custody wondering why should be programme be conducted if the sarpanch, who could speak about the problems, himself was arrested.
Following this query, Sunita Reddy directed police to release the sarpanch.
