Tejdeep seeks reinvestigation

Hyderabad, February 08: Senior IPS officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon, in the eye of a storm for allegedly thrashing a couple and intimidating them over a property dispute involving her close friend, wants the case to be reinvestigated.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), which found Menon guilty

on all counts, had recently directed the State government to pay Rs 4 lakh immediate interim relief to the couple.

The IPS officer had allegedly barged into the house of the couple _ Harita and Kadeer _ along with her gunman and threatened them some time in 2002 at the behest of her friend Captain Mamata. The interim relief was paid from the Police Welfare Fund, which has shocked many in the police department. The State Government, though, is all set to recover the Rs 4 lakh from the IPS officer.

Top sources disclosed to Express that in the last few days, Menon, who is in Ahmedabad on some work after returning from a holiday in Bangkok, reportedly met senior officials in the Government including Chief Secretary SV Prasad and DGP K Aravinda Rao.

“She is of the view that the NHRC investigation is sub-standard and therefore, there is a need for reinvestigation,” the sources said. It is learnt that her request reached Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.

The State Crime Investigation Department (CID) had investigated the case and submitted a detailed report to the government stating that there was enough evidence against Menon and sought permission for prosecuting her and her gunman. A similar request was also made by the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
