Tejdeep faces music for rights violation

Hyderabad, January 28: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday directed the State government to pay interim relief of Rs 4 lakh to a couple who were allegedly threatened and beaten up by Additional DGP (Sports) Tejdeep Kaur Menon in 2003.

The government is also likely to give the nod to the Crime Investigation Department to initiate criminal action against her.

Menon, along with her gunman, had barged into the house of the couple – MA Khadeer and Harita — allegedly at the behest of an air hostess, Captain Mamata, in August, 2002. Mamata had suspected Harita of stealing certain documents and valuables from her house and told the same to Menon following which the IPS officer decided to “teach a lesson” to the couple.

The officer also reportedly evicted the couple out of their flat.

However, the documents and the valuables were found elsewhere later and since then, Harita had been fighting for justice. Cases under Sections 323 (beating), 448 (trespass) and 506 IPC (criminal intimidation) were registered against Tejdeep at the Begumpet PS in April, 2003. Subsequently, the cases were transferred to the CID. However, one year back, Menon got a stay order from the court. The stay was vacated about a week ago.

Harita then approached the NHRC which directed the government to pay Rs 4 lakh compensation saying the victims should be compensated for violation of their rights. The NHRC ordered that the amount be handed over to Harita in two days. The government will issue in a week orders directing the CID to take criminal action against Menon., sources told Express.
