Tehelka is known for its hard-hitting news coverage and this time the magazine has managed to astonish everyone with their cover photo.
The latest issue of the Tehelka’s magazine equated Shiv Sena supremo late Bal Thackeray with Yakub Memon, Dawood Ibrahim and Bhindrawale.
With cover story “Who Is The Biggest Terrorist Of Them”, showed the image of Thackeray alongside Yakub Memon, Dawood Ibrahim and Bhindranwale.
The magazine asked whether India is being un-secular and unfair when it comes to treating the accused.
Yakub, despite confessing to his crimes was given the death sentence after languishing in jail for a lifetime; they claim that Thackeray was buried with state honours despite all the allegations against him.
Although the allegations were never proved and Thackeray got a clean chit from the government and judiciary; his involvement is still unquestionable.
“Yakub’s hanging juxtaposed with the State funeral for the Shiv Sena supremo is a powerful emblem of this discriminatory and prejudiced understanding that seriously impairs India’s fight against terror.”
The government, irrespective of its calls of secularism targets the Muslim community when it comes to riots.
The cover has received prickly responses from all quarters of the public and media.
Bala Nandgaonkar submitted a complaint against the news article in magazine Tehelka to the Shivaji Park police for allegedly using derogatory language and equating him with Dawood Ibrahim and Yakub Memon!
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), in the four-page application sought an FIR against the magazine’s reporter saying that it has hurt their sentiments.
However, legal opinion would be taken to determine further course of action.
