Bhopal, May 27: The custodians of law are turning predators these days. On Sunday, a 30-year old was raped by a Delhi Police traffic constable and on Thursday, a 19-year old girl committed suicide in Chhattarpur district of Madhya Pradesh after two policemen threatened to circulate an obscene MMS they had made of her. Constables Arvind Patel and K.L.
Tiwari are alleged to have shot an obscene video clip of Tara (name changed) and sought sexual favours from her. They also threatened to circulate the footage if she did not accede to their demands.
Tara had earlier lodged a complaint with the Chhattarpur superintendent of police (SP) against the policemen. After this, Ashok Tiwari and Praveen Tripathi, two colleagues of the accused policemen, met Tara’s parents and threatened them of dire consequences if they did not take back the complaint.
After the policemen left their Vishwanath Colony house, Tara and her younger sister consumed pesticide. While Tara died, her sister was admitted to a hospital in Jhansi in critical condition. In her complaint, Tara had said she was stopped by the two accused while she was travelling in a two-wheeler with a friend called Harish.
Arvind stopped the vehicle and took Tara to an unfurnished house that is coming up on the outskirts of the district headquarters.
Here, he is said to have made an obscene MMS of her with his mobile camera. Things got worse after Tiwari reportedly asked Tara to sleep with him or else he would circulate the MMS. After Arvind also started blackmailing her, Tara approached the SP on Sunday.
The police started a probe and suspended the constables, pending an inquiry. Following this, their colleagues threatened Tara’s parents to withdraw the case. “We have suspended both constables and are probing the matter,” Sunil Tiwari, additional SP, Chhattarpur, said.
