Pratapgarh: A day after an 18-year-old girl was allegedly set on fire by four persons here, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today directed district officials and police authorities to ensure a speedy probe in the case.
Yadav has also asked them to take strict action action against the guilty, according to an official spokesperson.
The teenage girl, Jyoti Vishwakarma, set on fire by Om Prakash Maurya, his wife and two others over land dispute in Shripur village in Jethwara area on Friday evening, according to police.
The girl, who sustained 90 per cent burn, has been admitted at a hospital in Allahabad, where she is battling for life.
Taking a serious note of the incident, the Chief Minister today directed Pratapgarh’s District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police to take strict action in the incident and ensure arrest of the accused at the earliest, the spokesman said.
Police said that an FIR has been lodged against Om Prakash Maurya, his wife and two others and efforts were being made to arrest them.
