Teenage girl in UP’s Auraiya district killed for refusing to marry elderly man

Kanpur: A Teenage girl was allegedly shot dead after she refused to marry an elderly man in Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh. The gruesome incident took place on Saturday night in Chandpura locality.

The deceased Arti was living with her aunt and her two sons in Bhatta Basti locality of the district when her father, Ram Kumar got married to an another woman after the death of her mother.

SP City Atul Sharma said. “According to the girl’s maternal uncle, she was murdered because she refused to marry a man who was of double her age.”

Arti and her three cousins were at home in Bhatta Basti locality while her paternal aunt Anita had gone to Delhi. The neighbours informed the police about the incident. The police rushed to the spot, they found her body lying in a pool of blood on the ground. The police also recovered a country-made firearm, a used catridge and a mobile phone from the murder site. A case of murder has been registered.

Arti’s maternal uncle Manoj Dohre, has blamed the girl’s paternal aunt Anita and the her two sons Chotey and Kariya Dohre, besides one of their aides, of murdering his niece.

He said that “Anita, who had been pursuing her B.Sc from a local degree college, and her two sons had been forcing Arti to marry a man who was double her age and accused them of killing her as she had rejected the marriage proposal. Investigations have revealed that there was one other accomplice of Chotey and Kariya Dohre, who was the first person seen escaping the house.”

The police official said, Chotey and Kariya Dohrey were also found missing when a police team reached their residence.

The SP said:”The police have arrested two persons including one of the cousins of Arti and their interrogation is underway. Forensic experts have collected samples from the incident site and which are being examined. A thorough investigation is underway following a complaint and subsequently registration of an FIR by girl’s maternal uncle against her paternal aunt and latters two sons.”
