Kota: A 16-year-old girl from Bihar preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination today allegedly committed suicide in her hostel room in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar here, police said.
Vaishnavi, a Class XI student from Bhagalpur district of Bihar, committed suicide by slitting veins of her hands while her cousin was asleep in the room, SHO of Jawharnagar police station, Harish Bharti said.
The girl was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood.
She was rushed to a hospital where the doctors declared her dead, he said.
She recently took admission in a coaching institute here on April 4 for preparing for IIT-JEE, engineering entrance exam, Bharti said.
The reason behind her extreme step is yet to be ascertained. She left no suicide note behind, Bharti said.
The body has been sent for postmortem which would be done after her parents arrive from Bihar, he said.
A probe is underway in the matter, the SHO said.
This is the fourth case of suicide by a student preparing for entrance examination this year here while 20 coaching students had committed suicide last year.
