Teen held for double-murder

Johannesburg, September 18: A third person has been arrested in connection with a double murder in Philippi-East, Western Cape police said on Friday.

Inspector Nondumiso Paul said a 17-year-old youth was arrested on Thursday.

A 25-year-old man and his 20-year-old girlfriend were shot dead in their shack, allegedly by three intruders, on Monday.

The couple sustained wounds to their heads and face.

A day later, police arrested a 20-year-old for defeating the ends of justice, after he allegedly hid one of the murder suspects. He was taken into custody along with an 18-year-old.

The 17-year-old and the 20-year-old are siblings, said Paul.

The trio were linked to other crimes in the area.

They are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
