Lakhimpur Kheri, July 16: In a terrifying incident, a girl was allegedly beaten up and gangraped in front of the whole village on Friday for having an affair with her teacher. The humiliated girl later committed suicide.
The incident took place in Lakhimpur Kheri of Uttar Pradesh and the accused are believed to be close to a former MP. The humiliation drove the victim – an 11th standard student girl to commit suicide. She left behind a suicide note.
“They dragged her into the fields and raped her. I was informed later on. We took her home. We were awake till around midnight. After we all slept off, she hanged herself with her dupatta,” said the victim’s father.
What is shocking is that the police failed to act until the media intervened. No arrests have been made yet. This is the second such incident to be reported in Lakhimpur Kheri and the eight in Uttar Pradesh in the past one month.
“The post mortem has been conducted. A case has been registered. We are investigating the matter,” SP Amit Chandra.
Earlier on June 12, a 14-year-old was allegedly raped and killed by policemen inside a police station in Lakhimpur.
