‘Technology key to growth of SMEs’

New Delhi, Dec 05: Technology up-gradation by the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) would play a key role in their future growth, said V Ramaswamy, Global head of the small and medium business of Tata Consultancy Services.

Emphasising on the IT and SME liaison Ramasamy said it is important to create easily deployable, flexible and affordable technology solutions. He was speaking at the fifth MSME Development Meet conducted by CII in Pune on Thursday. This annual flagship event of MSME Division of CII Western Region is being conducted for the second time in Pune. The meet was attended by a delegation from Korea, Japan and Italy.

The Korean Consul General, Mr Dong-Yern Kim said that the Indian-Korean tradehad grown from $2.8 billion in 2002 to $15.6 billion in 2008-09. He said, “Korea exports a wide range of goods from petro-chemicals to ships to India.This will help the India-Korea trade grow.”

Malani Shankar, IAS, Development Commissioner-Industries said SMEs always complained of two basic things — access to Finance and access to Markets.
