Hyderabad, March 17: Police yesterday claimed to have foiled a conspiracy by a mobile phone technician to murder his rival after they recovered a country-made pistol and a live round from him. Another man who helped him procure the weapon is absconding.
The nabbed technician, 23-year-old Syed Younus had planned to kill his rival over differences that cropped up at a gymnasium, police said.
Younus, a resident of Talabkatta, used to go to Asian gym there since the past five years. “At the gym, Younus and his friends had a stiff competition with another group, sons of Yaseen Pehalwan,” Task Force DCP V B Kamalasan Reddy said.
One-and-half year ago, Yaseen Pehalwan’s son, Mukaram along with 10 of friends attacked Younus but the latter managed to escape with the help of locals. “Similarly, a year ago when Younus was attending Ganesh immersion procession at Tank Bund, unidentified persons attacked him from behind. The attackers stabbed Younus but he survived. Younus suspected Mukaram to be behind the attack. Since then, Younus stopped going to the gym and avoided the latter,” Kamalasan Reddy said.
It was as Younus, who had developed a grudge against Mukaram, was waiting for an opportunity to eliminate the latter, that he came in contact with Waseem alias Akku Dada six months ago.
“Waseem offered help in eliminating Mukaram and the duo went to Kanpur in December and procured a country-made weapon and a live round of ammunition,” the DCP said. Waseem belonged to Uttar Pradesh and is presently absconding.
On information, North Zone Task Force sleuths nabbed Younus and seized the firearm. Younus was handed over to Hussainialam police for further action.
