Techie Held For Harassing Housewife By Creating Fake Facebook Profile

A married woman lodged a complaint with Cyber Crime Police Station on November 9 last alleging that a techie created a fake Facebook profile in her name and posted obscene information with morphed images and also sent the same to her friends and husband defaming her character thereby spoiling her matrimonial life. The police registered the complaint as Cr.No.96/2012 U/s 66-A, 66-D, 67 IT Act 2000 and Sec.507, 509 IPC and the case was investigated by Ch. Chandra Sekhar, Inspector of Police, Cyber Crime PS, CID, Hyderabad.

Additional Director General of Police, C.I.D., Hyderabad T. Krishna Prasad, in a pressnote has stated that during the course of investigation, accused Rampally Ravi, 23, an IT professional of Visampet village under Ramagundam Mandal of Karimnagar district was arrested on May 6, 2013. The accused confessed that he was in love with victim and when she was getting married, he pressurised her not to marry, but victim went ahead.

Later, the accused blackmailed her to have an affair with him even after the marriage for which the victim made him to apologize in front of elders and made him angry. To wreak vengeance, he hatched a plan to spoil her conjugal life by creating fake profile, sending obscene content to the victim’s husband and her friends in order to harass and defame her. He came to his friend’s house in Hyderabad and used his friend’s computer and internet connectivity for commission of the offence. At the instance of the accused, a hard disk, memory card and other incriminating documents used in commission of offence were seized in the presence of mediators and he was sent for judicial remand.
