Chennai, February 24: A team of officials from the Office of the Chief Controller of Explosives, Nagpur, visited firecracker units in and around Sivakasi for two days to assess the safety preparedness of the industry and to prevent fatal accidents while manufacturing the items for Diwali.
The team, headed by Chief Controller of Explosives P B Yedla and Controller of Explosives S M Mannan visited Sivakasi yesterday and today to inspect the safety measures and also interacted with the manufacturers.
During the visit, the team inspected a few firecracker factories to evaluate the safety measures adopted by them in view of the changed scenario that demands stricter compliance with the Explosives Rules, 2008, an official press release said.
Interacting with the cracker manufacturers at the Fireworks Research and Development Centre, Yedla highlighted the need for adopting a safety management plan and a proper emergency management system.
