Teachers threaten to boycott exams

Hyderabad, March 24: Protesting against the suspension of 63 invigilators on the first day of SSC examinations, which began on Monday, teachers’ association have threatened to boycott the examinations.

Pointing out that most of the teachers have been suspended for no fault of theirs, Progressive Recognised Teachers’ Union members said that the flying squad teams are suspending invigilators even if they find a single piece of paper in the exam hall. In Mahabubnagar district alone 16 invigilators were suspended on Monday.

Citing an example, where an invigilator was suspended unceremoniously, PRTU general secretary Ravi Kiran said, “A woman teacher in Mahabubnagar was suspended after the flying squad found a slip in the underwear of a student.

How is she responsible for that malpractice.’’ He said they have already informed their decision of boycotting the exams to the Directorate of Government Examination if the suspensions are not revoked.

The teachers said they have approached the Minister for Secondary Education D Manikya Varaprasada Rao, who, reporterdly, assured them that genuine cases would be identified and suspensions would be revoked on them.
