New Delhi: Greeting teachers on the occasion of Teachers Day, President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday said teachers are the building blocks of a good eduction system.
In India, Teachers’ Day is observed on September 5, the birthday of India’s second President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
In a message, President Mukherjee said: “On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, I have great pleasure in extending my greetings and felicitations to teachers throughout the country.”
He said Teachers’ Day is an occasion when we recognise the services of teachers who are “engaged in building and strengthening the intellectual and ethical foundations of our children”.
“A sound education system is the bedrock of an enlightened society. Inspired teachers are the building blocks of a good education system. An inspired teacher links the individual goals of the students to the societal and national goals,” Mukherjee said.
“We need our teachers to instil in our children civilisational values of sacrifice, tolerance, pluralism, understanding and compassion,” he added.
The President said the teachers also need to “imbibe technology and new methodologies” to create modern and effective approaches to teaching and learning.
“I convey my good wishes to the entire teaching community of our country and express gratitude on behalf of the people of our nation for their lifetime of dedication and commitment to the great cause of educating our youth,” he said.
