Hyderabad, February 12: The Joint Action Committee of Telangana teachers have decided to boycott the census operations work from February 17 to 21 to build pressure on the Central government to introduce a Bill on separate Telangana in Parliament.
Led by MLC and Telangana Teachers’ leader B Mohan Reddy, the TTJAC submitted a notice to Chief Secretary SV Prasad at the Secretariat regarding their non-cooperation movement for realising their demands.
Later, representatives of 25 Teachers’ Unions came to the media point, raising slogans in support of separate Telangana. The teachers told media persons that they would boycott any work or meeting connected to the census operations for five days.
Though it is a National programme they were constrained to take to this stir, the protesting teachers justified.
The leaders clarified that their protest or non-cooperation would not inconvenience the students as they would teach an extra hour in their schools. The teachers have been drafted for Census 2011 work.
Abolition of 14 (1) Clause which allows Hyderabad as free zone for recruitment, restoration of mulki rules for Telangana people, filling up vacant posts, abolition of apprentice system in teachers’ recruitment from July 1, 2008 as recommended by the PRC were some of their demands.
Pulla Ravinder, Punna Kumar, M Manipal Reddy, K Venugopal, P Yugandhar Reddy were among those who addressed the press.
