Warangal, February 07: The state government has initiated steps to remove teachers failing to attend duties for years.
The school education department has sought explanation from such teachers. As there is no way to reach them, as their present addresses are not available with the department, their names were published in the government gazette on Feb 2 and were given 15 days, time to respond.
As many as 36 teachers were found to be not reporting to duties for many years in Warangal district. Some of them did not even bother to apply for leave while a few are believed to have gone abroad for making quick money.
But according to the rules, government staff intending to go abroad should obtain prior permission.
At least, two teachers, it was known, had gone abroad without taking permission while a few other teachers are reportedly busy with their real estate business.
As these teachers are still on the rolls, there is no way the government can appoint new teachers in their place even while the former are not available to teach students.
The education department has sent show cause notices to 41 teachers in the past. But only five of them resumed duty while others did not even care to reply, leave alone reporting to duty.
The government, after examining the situation, has decided to terminate services of the teachers failing to report to duty and accordingly initiated the process. “If the teachers who are not attending duty do not reply, we have no other option but to dismiss them from service,” DEO BJ Pushparaj said.
