But when Shaikh went to meet her daughter on October 10 at the teacher’s residence in Mumbra, she found many wounds on her daughter’s face. “My daughter was made to prepare the tiffin for the teachers’ children and do other household chores. They also tortured her by putting heated spoon and burning candles on her face,” Shaikh said, adding that when she tried to take her away, the teacher stopped her. “After that I lodged a complaint with the police,” she said.

Anwar, who was arrested and released on bail, denied he beat up the girl and alleged her parents were blackmailing him.”I did not beat her up. She got injured after fell down in the bathroom. Her mother had requested me to take the girl’s custody because she suspected her husband of having wrong intentions,” Anwar said.
