Teacher shot dead by Naxals in Chhattisgarh

A 30-year-old government school teacher was allegedly shot dead by naxalites in Maoist-hit Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh, police said today.

The shikshakarmi (contractual teacher) Ranveer Salame was killed late last evening by a group of armed naxals in Teregaon village weekly market under Kohka police station limits, Rajnandgaon Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Shukla said.

Salame was posted at a school under restive Khadgaon police station area. The incident took place when he visited the weekly market along with wife. About 10 armed naxals stormed the area and shot at him using pistols, he said.

According to eyewitnesses, assailants included self-styled commander of Mohla region of CPI (Maoist) Chintu Tekam and other local cadres, he said.

The reason behind the fatal attack is yet to be ascertained, he said.

A case has been registered in this connection and security forces have launched hunt to nab the attackers in the region, he added.
