Kolkata: A High school teacher in West Bengal was tied with rope and dragged on the road by a group of ruling TMC party panchayat leaders on January 31 in South Dinajpur district.
The incident occurred at Gangarampur of the district after the teacher protested against the construction of a road on her land. The assault video has been doing the internet rounds since then.
Teacher Smriti Kana Das was tied with ropes, beaten up, dragged on the ground mercilessly by gram panchayat deputy pradhan Amal Sarkar.
When the teacher’s sister Soma Das objected to the assault, she was too thrashed and thrown to the ground.
“When I raised my voice, TMC workers, including Sarkar, beat me up. They tied my legs with a rope and dragged me for several metres. I have lodged a complaint with the police,” Das said quoted as Indian Express.
Both the victims were later rushed to a nearby hospital and released on Saturday after treatment.
Taking action against the leader, Trinamool Congress suspended Amal Sarkar.
