Anantapur, September 21: In a punishment that can shock the civilised world, a physical education teacher mercilessly thrashed a couple of Class X students of the Zilla Parishad High School at Siddapuram village in BK Samudram mandal in Anantapur district which resulted in the two boys having their arms fractured.
The incident came to light when the villagers, along with the parents of the boys, staged a protest demonstration near the school demanding action against the teacher, Anita. The PET, during the drill on Saturday evening, found the performance of Hari and Naresh unsatisfactory. Overcome with anger, she started caning them on the hand, even as other students started shouting in caution. Instead of stopping, she caned four other students.
When Naresh and Hari returned to their respective homes and narrated what had happened at the school their parents did not take the punishment seriously, assuming that the injuries were only of minor nature. But on the following morning, both the boys were unable to lift their hands and were rushed to hospital where the parents were told that both the boys’ hands were fractured. After getting the hands of both the boys bandaged, the parents returned home and in no time the news spread in the village like a wildfire. As it was Sunday, the villagers decided to approach the school authorities on Monday.
Today, they gathered in large number and staged a protest to make their point. On seeing the mob, the teacher in question, Anita, retreated inside and hid herself in a room.
Soon other teachers and deputy education officer Paramanand, who happened to be in the area, arrived at the school and inquired into the matter. And, Anita was called there. Explaining that she had not beaten the boys intentionally, she nevertheless apologised to the boys and their parents, and the entire village. She said she was prepared to bear the expenses incurred on the boys’ medical treatment. With tempers cooling down the villagers went back but not before serving a warning to Anita against repeating any such act.
