Hyderabad, May 21: The Telugu Desam Telangana Forum has decided to organise a public meeting ‘Telangana Nagaara’ in Karimnagar on May 25 to press the demand for creation of a separate state. The Forum which met here this evening cancelled its proposed paada yatra (foot march) programme from the 23rd and instead decided to organise the public meeting, party sources said.
The meeting at the TDP headquarters NTR Bhavan, however, witnessed an exchange of words between two senior leaders Nagam Janardhana Reddy and Errabilli Dayakar Rao when the former insisted on conducting the public meeting without using the party flag, they said.
But Nagam became a loner as none of the leaders present supported him. Besides, the Forum leaders also turned down Nagam’s demand that TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu write a fresh letter to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram indicating the party’s stand on Telangana, the sources said.
Nagam had organised a pro-Telangana rally in his native Nagarkurnool in Mahbubnagar district early this month without using the party banner, inviting widespread criticism from his colleagues.
Naidu made it clear to his party colleagues that any programme organised by them should be under the TDP banner. Accordingly, the Forum has decided to conduct the Karimnagar public meeting under the aegis of the party only, the sources said.
