May Day was observed in a solemn manner in the TDP office at the NTR Trust Bhavan on Tuesday. Former minister E Peddi Reddy garlanded statue of N T Rama Rao, founder of the party on the occasion. E Lakshmi Narayana presided over the meeting in which party senior leader Bejjala Gopala Krishna Reddy, newly elected Rajya Sabha member C M Ramesh, Potlu Nageswara Rao and others greeted the working class.
Speaking on the occasion, party MLA Gali Muddu Krishnama Naidu said that late NTR launched the TDP only to safeguard the welfare of the workers and farmers. He said the party that was borne out of the sweat of the poor would always stand by them.
Kadiyam Srihari said that there was need to strengthen the trade unions which were getting weakened by the political parties. He said there was need for the TNTUC to work in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion, May Day was being observed all over the world as a mark of respect to those who rose against exploitation of the working class and their labour. He said workers had fought against the tyranny of the employers and asserted their rights. He said the same situation has now arisen with employers showing inequality between workers and depriving the employees of security through outsourcing. He recalled the day when NTR regularized 3,000 temporary workers with a single stroke of his pen in Tirupati. He also said that it was Naidu who had announced a bonus of 20 per cent to workers over gross profits. (NSS)
