Hyderabad, November 16: After its defeat in the recent Assembly elections due to the presence of the Praja Rajyam Party and the Lok Satta Party, the TDP is wary of a similar effect in the coming polls to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
While the LSP has a strong urban vote bank, the PRP too has a presence in divisions where settlers are numerically strong.
Reviewing the party’s performance after the Assembly polls, party president acknowledged that the presence of PRP and LSP had hit the TDP. A recent meeting at Imperial Gardens here threw up the same conclusion with former Mayor Teegala Krishna Reddy saying the two players would damage the party’s prospects. He also spelled out the threat from Congress and MIM, saying they had a clandestine understanding aimed at sharing the mayor and deputy mayor posts respectively.
And TDP leader Sudheesh Rambhotla said PRP too had a tacit pact with the Congress, while the “attitude’’ of the LSP too was worrisome.
The PRP has decided to contest around 65 divisions in the city and the LSP too is contesting a majority of divisions, as is the BJP. Considerable division of Opposition votes is inevitable.
On the brighter side, however, internal bickerings and the dissident problem in Congress are expected to work in favour of the Telugu Desam.
