TDP slams State for change in Fee Reimbursement rules

The Telugu Desam Party on Tuesday accused the State Government of burdening the students by introducing new rules and regulations for granting Fee Reimbursement.

Talking to media persons at NTR Trust Bhavan, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu said that the recommendations made by the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Fee Reimbursement scheme would put huge burden on the BC students and they would be unable to pursue higher education.

Naidu took serious objection on cabinet sub-committee’s recommendation for fixing Rs 31,000 as sealing for reimbursement of fee to students. Stating that TDP has implemented the fee reimbursement scheme during its tenure, he said that the present government was cheating the students by diluting the scheme citing financial problems.

Retreating that the TDP was committed for the welfare of BCs in the State, Naidu said that his party would reserve 100 seats for the BCs in general elections of 2014. He claimed that the political parties in the State have changed their attitude towards BCs after TDP’s announcement of BC Declaration. He slammed the government for not spending a single rupee for the welfare of Handloom weavers of the State despite their pathetic financial conditions.

Naidu said that the TDP would review the Janta Wastra Scheme for the weavers if it comes to power in 2014. Moreover, TDP would also lift VAT on textiles to support retailer in their business.

Meanwhile, TDP Rajya Sabha member T Devender Goud also on Tuesday demanded that the State Government immediately withdraw the report submitted by Cabinet Sub-committee on fee reimbursement scheme as it would put additional financial burden on other Backward Classes.

Goud said that the committee suggested the students to pursue their studies by taking interest-free loans from banks. However, when the BC families were earning Rs 17 per day, he asked as to how they could pursue studies by taking bank loans.
