Hyderabad, December 09: Telugu Desam Party general secretary Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdhary on Thursday ridiculed Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s announcement of a permanent commission for farmers’ welfare.
Talking to media persons at NTR Trust Bhavan, Butchaiah Chowdhary said that the announcement had come in the wake of a ‘stage managed show’ by the Chief Minister after summoning farmers to his Camp Office on Wednesday. He said that the Chief Minister had no respect for the assembly as he could have made the same announcement during the discussions on No Confidence Motion on farmers’ issue. “The Chief Minister is proposing another commission after throwing reports of several other committees into dust bin,” he said.
In a dramatic manner, he said the CM Office reeled out announcement of a Rs 50 crore grant to provide a hike of Rs 200 per tonne to sugarcane farmers after the meeting. He said about two months ago the government has assured to provide Rs 2,500 per tonne to sugarcane, but now it has offered a hike of just Rs 200.
Butchaiah Chowdhary demanded that the government pay a Minimum Support Price of Rs 2,500 per tonne to sugarcane farmers and implement the recommendations of several committees set up so far.
