TDP to review party policies

Hyderabad, March 28: The Telugu Desam Party will take up a thorough review of the policies pertaining to poor and marginal sections and initiate corrective measures to ensure that problems encountered during its regime did not recur.

The TDP which enters into 30 {+t} {+h} year of its foundation on March 29 has decided to revisit its policies and make necessary changes in line with the current developments. The party is planning to organise a 14-month celebration from March 29 this year to Mahanadu 2012 when steps would be taken to reinvigorate the party giving priority to youth.

On Lokesh and politics

“There is a need for the youth to take active part in politics as politics alone will influence all walks of life,” TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu told reporters here on Sunday adding the TDP would strive to create awareness and encourage youth in taking to this field. He, however, evaded a reply when asked whether his son, N. Lokesh would be invited to join politics. He said that several experiments to forge an alternative to the Congress failed and the TDP had emerged as the only choice. In an indirect dig at the Praja Rajyam, he said newer parties which formed two years ago merged with the Congress, but the TDP continued its crusade against the “corrupt” Congress governments.

Ushering in of the economic reforms and the consequent reforms initiated by the TDP government in various sectors had significantly contributed in wealth creation. At the same time, rampant corruption during the Congress regime had ensured that the disparities between the rich and poor increased, he said.

Cash transfer scheme

The remedy to plug leakages and strengthening the delivery mechanisms lay in the cash transfer scheme which would enhance efficiency and ensure that the benefits reached the deserving sections.

He refuted the argument that cash transfer scheme would make poor vulnerable to market forces claiming cost effective solutions emerged only in competitive economy.

Replying to queries, Mr. Naidu said the TDP was clear in its stand on Telangana issue and the party would chalk out its course of action from time-to-time depending on the situation.
