TDP reins are not hereditary: Babu

Vijayawda, May 15: There is no chance of hereditary control of the Telugu Desam, and party activists’ decision will be final in electing a leader, party supremo N Chandrababu Naidu has asserted.

Replying to a question whether there was a power struggle going on between the Nara and Nandamuri families for control over the party, Naidu said it would not be possible in the Telugu Desam.

“One has to work hard for the party to emerge as a leader. When Rajiv Gandhi died, PV Narasimha Rao was offered the prime ministerial post. Later, Sonia Gandhi began working for the party and emerged as UPA chairperson. Likewise, in Tamil Nadu Jayalalithaa emerged as leader of the AIADMK after several years of struggle.’’

Naidu claimed that the party founded by NT Rama Rao had some principles. “In contrast, the Congress has none. It has tried to lure TDP leaders during the Kadapa by-elections. It has roped in PRP chief Chiranjeevi and is now trying to get the support of TRS leader K Chandrasekhar Rao.’’

On the Kadapa bypolls, he said sympathy and money factors played a key role.
