TDP has questioned the CBI why the YSR Congress chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was not being arrested in the illegal assets case against him.
Talking to the media here on Monday, party senior leader Revanth Reddy questioned as to why the CBI, which arrested B P Acharya, has so far not arrested Jagan, who was Accused No. 1 in the case against him. He alleged that the CBI was willfully diluting the case against Jagan. He charged Jagan with bringing pressure on the CBI through the Union government. Reminding that Jagan had stated that his party would support the UPA after the next elections and also try to get some important portfolios like Railways, Revant said that this has proved beyond doubt that Jagan had colluded with the Congress.
Referring to Jagan’s speeches on moral values and credibility, Revant said that he should think what kind of attempts he had made for becoming chief minister. He also questioned whether it was not true that Jagan sat in the Chief Minister’s camp office and started collecting signatures supporting his candidature for chief minister’s post and whether he could deny that he had gone to Chiranjeevi’s house and sought his support even before his father’s dead body arrived. “When our family members meet with accident, we go to the hospital or accident spot immediately. But, Jagan sat coolly in the office, collecting signatures of the legislators”, he alleged.
Revanth also said that when late chief minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy fell ill during his Padayatra prior to 2004, though every leader of the Congress party went and enquired about his health, Jagan did not go anywhere near his father. He alleged that Jagan was now trying to get the sympathy of the voters over his father’s death through the ‘Odarpu Yatra’. He said if these are the values Jagan was talking about, they did not need such values.
Revanth also questioned Jagan, who was talking about values, why he had not met and consoled the family members of officers, who were languishing in jails because of him. Why has he not at least provide legal aid to them, he asked. He alleged that all the arrested officers had tried to benefit Jagan and were facing criminal charges and incarceration now, he alleged. He said that Jagan, who had engaged eminent lawyers to plead on his behalf, had totally forgotten about the officers who had helped him.
JAGAN COLLUDED WITH CONGRESS
Referring to the statement of Jagan that his party would win 35 seats and support UPA government, he asked how could he support the government led by the Congress, against which he was campaigning now. He said that while Jagan has colluded with Congress, he was alleging that TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu had colluded. He also alleged that Jagan was working with the sole aim of looting the State by coming to power. He warned that the State and democracy would be in peril if such people come to power. He said that even if people vote for Jagan, he would later merge his party in the Congress.
Taking a dig at Chiranjeevi, Revanth said that the actor-turned-politician, who had promised the people of social justice, was now waiting in Delhi for darshan of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. (NSS)
