In protest against the government’s failure to supply subsidised seeds and fertilizers to farmers, hundreds of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activists observed dharna in front of the Commissionarate of Agriculture at Basheerbagh here today. Activists led by Grater Hyderabad President Teegala Krishna Reddy gathered in front of the agriculture office and raised slogans against the government. The irate TDP activists had a heated argument with the police when they tried to attack the Commissionerate office. However, the police foiled their attempts and took the activists into custody. Later, addressing the gathering, Mr Reddy slammed the Congress government for its failure to supply the subsidised seeds and fertilizers despite the start of khariff season.
He demanded the government to constitute a Cabinet Sub-Committee to probe into the irregularities in supply of seeds and fertilizers. The government has miserably failed in containing black marketing of seeds and fertilizers by shop-owners, he alleged and demanded stern action against them. Former Minister Kodela Shiva Prasad Rao alleged that the government was playing with the lives of farmers by deliberately neglecting their issues. Among those who participated in the dharna were MLAs Motkupalli Narsimhiulu, Jaipal Yadav, Venkat Ratnam, Venkateswar Rao, Kota Shiva Prasad and GHMC floor leader Singireddy Srinivas Reddy and others corporators.
