TDP General Secretary Nara Lokesh on Wednesday claimed that the Telugu Desam Party has retained its voters’ base although it lost seats in the just concluded GHMC elections.
Speaking to media persons after holding a review meeting with senior leaders on TDP’s dismal performance, Lokesh said that the people hailing from Seemandhra region have voted in favour of TRS out of fear. He alleged that the voters feared that they would be harassed if they vote against the ruling party. Further, he said that the Congress vote bank got transferred to the TRS which resulted in TDP’s defeat in GHMC elections.
Lokesh said that the TDP-BJP combine secured almost 25% of votes in the GHMC elections and TDP was in second position in 65 wards. He said that the Congress vote percentage has reduced from 35% to 10%. He hoped that the TDP would give better performance in 2019 General Elections. (INN)
