Hyderabad, December 23: As there was no fresh statement from the Centre on Telangana, Telugu Desam Party leaders have decided to scale down their agitation and continue it for a longer period.
Party legislators in Anantapur and Nellore districts withdrew their hunger strike while their counterparts in Krishna, Guntur and West Godavari districts are continuing.
In Anantapur party legislators P Sunitha and P Raghunatha Reddy withdrew their fast-unto-death on the advice of party Politburo member K Yerran Naidu today.
Yerran Naidu stated that the lives of the legislators were more precious to the party and that the movement could be continued in other ways.
However, Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao and Kodela Sivaprasada Rao were firm on continuing their fast.
Meanwhile, the State Human Rights Commission has directed the district collector and Superintendent of Police of Guntur district to administer intravenous fluids and if necessary nasal feeding to Telugu Desam legislator D Uma Maheswara Rao, who was admitted to NRI hospital.
The Commission stated in unequivocal terms that doctors should administer treatment to the legislator forcibly even if he rejects.
In West Godavari district party legislators M Rajesh and Ch Prabhakar were continuing their hunger strike whereas in Visakhapatnam K Atcham Naidu withdrew his fast.
The legislators felt that the State MPs should quit the posts and bring pressure on the Centre for a favourable decision on united State.
