Chintamneni Prabhakar, TDP MLA of Denduluru in West Godavari district surrendered before the Eluru court on Wednesday morning.
Family court remanded him to judicial custody till March 6. Chintamneni surrendered before the court on the directions of the AP high court.
It may be recalled that Chintamneni is an accused in the attack on SI Mohana Rao of Peda Vegi in West Godavari district. Cases were registered under Sections 341, 332 and 506 read with 34 IPC against Chintamneni and his gunman. Police tried to arrest him last month after the SC, ST atrocity case was registered against him. He reportedly went underground. Then six police teams were sent in search of the MLA.
Peda Vegi SI Bandi Mohan Rao went to Pina Kadimi village and caught some persons gambling with cards. While he was taking the gamblers to the station, the MLA allegedly waylaid the police team with his car. The SI even complained that the MLA and his gunman beat him up and threatened to kill him. Police registered a case and tried to arrest the MLA when he went underground. (NSS)
