Hyderabad, August 23: Telugu Desam Party MLA Seethakka on Sunday demanded that the state government reimpose total prohibition in the state in order to protect the health of the people of the state.
Talking to reporters at NTR Trust Bhavan, Seethakka said “the state government had granted liberal permits to liquor shops in contravention of rules and regulations in order to increase its revenues.”
She blamed the “skewed policy of the state government for the mushrooming of unauthorised liquor outlets.”
Revealing details of a over a proposed rally to be launched by the TDP, the Mulugu MLA said that this rally would be held on August 26 in Karimnagar district and would be a part of the party’s attempts to build a solid anti-liquor movement.
The MLA said the TDP would intensify its protest against beltshops across the state from September second week. In the rallies and other programmes, the people of the affected areas would be made aware of the ill-effects of widespread liquor consumption, she said.
Seethakka urged the government to suspend the revenue and excise officials where the illegal belt-shops were identified in the districts, to check sale and consumption of illegal liquor.
She also expressed her regrets that the women members of the Congress party were not speaking out against the evils of increased sale of alcohol while the rest of the women in the state were agitating against belt shops.
