The TDP members staged a walk-out from the Assembly on Monday protesting against the failure of the government in providing the required relief to the handloom weavers, including waiver of their loans.
Earlier, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, intervening during the question hour, explained the various measures being taken by the government to mitigate the plight of the handloom weavers. So far, the State government had waived loans to the tune of Rs 142 crores and many more applications for waiver are being processed.
The Chief Minister even took potshots by stating that not a single paisa was waived during the TDP regime whereas the Congress government had initiated welfare scheme for loan waiver. (NSS)
