Police arrested several Telugu Desam Party activists, including MLAs when they tried to barge into Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy’s Camp office at Begumpet to protest against the state Government’s alleged indifference in resolving the power crisis, today. As part of ‘Chalo Camp Office’ call given by the party, several TDP leaders and workers gathered at the CM’s Camp office in the morning.
They raised slogans against the government and demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister charging that he failed to tackle the power crisis.
Those arrested included MLAs Yerraballe Dayakar Rao and Mahidhar Reddy. They took them to Punjagutta Police station. Later, talking to news persons, TDP MLAs came down heavily on the government for arresting the activists.
The leaders alleged that due to severe power crisis, the managements of several industries were laying off employees. This would lead to serious social unrest.
At Sircilla in Karimnagar district, alarge number of handloom weavers staged a rasta roko stir in protest against unscheduled power cuts, and demanded 24 hours supply of power to weavers under a special package, on par with the farming community. UNI
