TDP leader Dadi bats for BC as next president

The main Opposition party in the State- TDP- has demanded the UPA government to make a suitable Backward Class person as the 13th President of the nation.

Speaking to the media at NTR Trust Bhavan here on Sunday, Opposition Party leader in the Legislative Council, Dadi Veerabhadra Rao alleged that the Congress was contemplating to propose the name of veteran leader Pranab Mukherjee as the presidential candidate, not with love on him, but to remove obstacles in making Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister in future.

He said that 12 persons had become President of the nation so far, but none of them was from backward class category. He said that the BCs constituted 60 percent in the society, but nobody was thinking on making a BC candidate as the president of the nation.

He also alleged that the Union government was escaping from the enumeration of BCs during Census. The Union government was scared of BCs and hence it was not conducting BC enumeration. He said that his party was demanding for 33.33 percent reservation for the BCs in the Parliament and Assembly. He said that a resolution was passed in the Legislative Assembly and Council, but the UPA government was not coming forward to give statutory status to it.
Stating that intellectuals, experts, efficient persons and those with sacrifices were there among the BCs, Dadi has demanded all political parties to select a person from BCs for the post of President unanimously and do social justice.

He also requested his party supreme N Chandrababu Naidu to put his efforts to make a BC candidate as president of the nation by consulting the national leaders from various political parties. (NSS)
