Hyderabad: TDP Supremo, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu is planning to forge a coalition with Congress in Telangana State for the next General Elections.
Authentic sources revealed that after consulting various TDP leaders of TS, Mr. Naidu agreed to their proposal that instead of contesting alone, TDP could form a coalition with Congress in order to avoid division of votes.
It is reported that in 25-30 Assembly constituencies, TDP has a stronghold. It can persuade Congress to leave at least 20 seats in such constituencies for TDP.
In TS, 11 TDP MLAs have quit the party which demoralized it. It is also reported that TDP has a vote bank of 18% in TS. After consultations, Mr. Naidu has allowed the TDP leaders of TS to negotiate with Congress Party. Although Congress is the opponent party in AP, he has given green signal to forge an alliance with it taking into consideration the political situation in Telangana.
A section of TDP leaders of TS opine that it can also forge an alliance with newly formed Telangana Jana Samithi headed by Prof. Kodandaram.
It may be mentioned that after the formation of TS, TDP has been successful in 14 Assembly constituencies. TDP did not support separate Telangana Movement but AP settlers residing in Telangana voted in favour of TDP. Out of 14 MLAs, 11 joined TRS whereas Mr. Revanth Reddy joined Congress and Mr. R. Krishnaiyah, MLA of LB Nagar is keeping himself away from TDP activities. The only faithful MLA of Mr. Naidu is Mr. S. Venkata Veeraiah.
The popularity of TDP could be gauged from the success it got in Jubilee Hills, Sanath Nagar Cantonment, Qutubullahpur, Kukatpally, LB Nagar, Maheshwaram, Serilingampally and Rajindra Nagar Assembly Constituencies in the last election.
The first MLA who joined TRS after quitting TDP was Mr. Srinivas Yadav whom Mr. KCR offered ministerial berth in his cabinet.
It remains to be seen how far the efforts of TDP would yield fruitful results.
