TDP holding talks with Left, MBT

Hyderabad, November 04: The Telugu Desam is holding talks with the Left parties and MBT over seat-sharing in the GHMC elections.

Though the TDP is not sure of getting an absolute majority in the corporation, it wants to check the march of the Congress to some extent.

With this objective, it wants to forge an alliance with CPM, CPI and MBT.

TDP is also aware that the strength of the Left parties is very limited in Hyderabad.

Yet TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu favours an alliance with them to check the Congress. Moreover, he thinks, an alliance will send a message that the Left is with the TDP.

“Of the 150 seats in the civic body, MIM is likely to win 35 to 40. If the TDP put up a tough fight in 110 divisions, the Congress will find it difficult to capture the mayoral post,’’ says a TDP leader.

“In case the court cancels the voting right to ex officio members like MLA, MPs and MLCs, the TDP will be in a position to play a vital role in the election of the mayor,’’ another TDP leader says.

With the initial round of talks with TDP not yielding positive results, the CPM released its first list today. According to TDP sources, the MBT wants to contest from 15 divisions but the TDP wants to allot it only five.

The CPM wants to contest from more than 50 divisions but the TDP wanted to limit it to not more than ten.

“The CPI is rational as it sought only 15. But we are thinking of allottting it only five divisions,’’ a party leader says.
