The Telugu Desam Party(TDP) will stage a ‘Maha Dharna’ on the Prakasam Barrage on August 26 to highlight the plight of farmers affected due to non-release of water from Nagarjuna Sagar Dam to Krishna Delta Region. Addressing a press conference at NTR Trust Bhavan here, TDP MLA Devineni Umamaheswara Rao said farmers from Krishna, West Godavari, Guntur, and Prakasam Districts would participate in large numbers to bring pressure and” wake up the State Government from its deep slumber”.
Stating that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy earlier announced that the government would release 15 TMC to the Delta region, he said the government” washed off its hands off by releasing a mere 3.5 TMC of water only”. Meanwhile, TDP leader Dhulipala Narendra alleged that the crops in the region withered due to frequent power cuts causing huge damage to the distressed farmers. To highlight the issues, the ‘Maha Dharna’ is being organised,he added. UNI
